About the Capture History Project: Capturing those that Create History
Capture History Project
A Living Portrait Series by Come and Take It Photography
The Capture History Project is an ongoing photographic initiative dedicated to preserving the artistry, authenticity, and passion of historical reenactors. Created by award-winning photographer Michael Crawley, the project brings studio-quality portraiture to the world of living history—honoring the individuals who keep America’s past alive.
Through carefully crafted lighting, period-accurate styling, and a deep respect for each impression, the Capture History Project showcases reenactors from all eras of history:
from Colonial and Revolutionary War impressions, to the Texas Revolution, Civil War, Old West, WWI, WWII, and more. The project welcomes all impressions—civilian, military, Native, and representations of all ages, including adults and children.
Each portrait is designed to feel timeless, capturing not only the clothing, gear, and detailed craftsmanship of each impression, but also the historically accurate weapons, tools, and equipment that help bring these portrayals to life. The focus is on honoring authenticity while highlighting the dedication of the individuals behind the impression.
Every reenactor photographed receives digital copies of their completed portraits. Sessions take place throughout the year at reenactment events, living history gatherings, studio days, and pop-up locations across Texas and the United States. At some events printed portraits will be available for purchase.
The mission is simple:
Preserve the faces of those who preserve our history.
By creating a visual record of reenactors in their craft, the Capture History Project helps ensure that future generations can appreciate the traditions, skill, and passion of living historians.
Whether you’re a seasoned reenactor or new to the community, you are invited to take part. Join us—step into the light, tell your story, and help us Capture History.
